Would you believe that 1 in 5 women say they’ve dated – or married – a man who was high-maintenance? And according to recent study of more than 2,000 people, more than half of the couples split up because of it.
So what are the signs that a man is high maintenance?
He always shows up fashionably late, he constantly worries about how he looks, and he insists on living in a spotless home.
More male-diva behavior: He needs to be told "I love you" several times a day. He avoids activities that might make him sweaty or dirty – like camping. And he throws a fit when things don’t go his way.
More signs of a male diva: He refuses to walk anywhere, drinks only bottled water, and refuses to wear clothes that aren’t designer brands.
A male diva will also demand that you answer his calls within a certain number of rings, and reply immediately to his text messages. And when he’s not happy, he’ll pout until you make it up to him.
So, why are so many men turning into demanding divas?
Psychotherapist Dr. Bethany Marshall believes it’s because there are now more women in the workplace than men, so, the definition of what it means to be a man in a relationship has changed. And since gender roles are becoming increasingly blurred, men are more likely to give themselves permission to step away from the more-traditional macho roles, and explore some of the characteristics they avoided because they were traditionally labeled as “feminine.”
