I have some creative cures for your stress. The stress that makes you tired, tense, worried, or angry. This comes from Woman’s World magazine.

  • We’ll start with anger. The antidote is: Dancing. A study done on crime victims found that dancing helped them release their pent up anger, and lowered their stress level. An added benefit? Dancing has the same health advantages as exercise – but since it’s more fun, it also increases feel good hormones like serotonin.
  • If you’re tense? Start drumming. According to psychologist Dr. Louise Montello, author of “Essential Music Intelligence”, the simple act of pounding on something, even a desk with your hands, helps you release the stress you’re holding inside.
  • The stress cure for anxiety? Get planting. A British study found that gardening improves mental health by lowering both stress hormones and epinephrine. That’s a neurotransmitter that kicks in when we’re anxious.
  • Another way stress affects us, it rattles our nerves. Making us jittery and jumpy. So calm down by knitting.

Researchers at Harvard Medical School found that repetitive tasks like knitting, sewing, and crocheting are as effective as meditation and yoga when it comes to triggering the body’s relaxation response. According to the book “How To Calm Down”, kitting forces you to focus on something other than your worries.

And one last way to cure your stress. If it’s the type of stress that drains your energy, draw something. A study at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago found that patients who started drawing and painting reported not only less pain, but less depression, and increased energy. And if you want to boost your energy even higher, draw or paint with orange and yellow. Those two colors give the body an extra rush of adrenaline.
