Airports Are Upgrading Their Terminal Entertainment

Are you headed to the airport any time soon? Well, waiting for your flight to depart may not be as boring as you expect it to be. According to MSNBC, airports across North America are rolling out amenities like concerts, free candy for the kids and free food to make waiting for your flight fly by. For example, Miami International Airport is offering weekly concerts, at Los Angeles International Airport, you’ll be able to snack on Pink’s hotdogs – one of the city’s legendary hot dog stands, and at Vancouver International Airport, they have "Take-off Fridays” – a program launched during the Winter Olympics – which is now a weekly party complete with face painting and prizes.

So, why are airports upgrading their terminal entertainment? Because the number one customer complaint isn’t high prices, lost baggage or rude employees. It’s delayed flights! Airlines are hoping to improve customer satisfaction – even when flights are delayed - by offering everything from free Wi-Fi Internet, to vegan food restaurants, to art exhibits. Some airports are including perks for pets! Like the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. It has new pet parks so you and your dog can stretch before boarding! The thinking is that today’s travelers generally base their travel decisions on three factors: fares, ease of travel, and airport experience. Research has shown that people will go out of their way to drive several hours to a different airport, if they know they’ll get something in return for the hassle – like free Wi-Fi service.
